I have been travelling for a living for 30 years and I know what it’s like to travel alone and I know what it’s like to have a travel buddy. Sometimes it makes a world of difference to the enjoyment of a travel experience. This page will be set up in answer to many of our passengers that have requested an interactive “travel companion search”. Please fill out the form below with any of your suggestions on how you'd like to see this page set up.
Canadian Woman Traveller, Travel Buddy program

Although we sincerely try to keep ‘single supplements’ as reasonable as possible, we have found that many women would really like to share twin accommodation and that many women who are able and wanting to travel do not have a travel buddy in their immediate circle to share travel costs with. So we have set up an interactive page for women to network for any of our programs. Please feel free to use this for other than our existing programs. We are happy to even use it as a networking spot to communicate with other women about your own individual travel plans, or to set up complete custom programs other than what we are offering. Please keep in mind that we encourage the users of ‘Travel Buddy Search’ to interact honestly and upfront about personal expectations of a potential roommate. Over the years I have seen people become fast friends and long-time travel companions but like any shared experience there can be a great deal of compromise. We suggest that you go further than presuming that a cheerful relaxed voice, and a shared interest in keeping travel costs down will make for a perfect roommate. Some things to keep in mind when discussing the possibility of sharing with someone :

  • Does either one of you smoke ?
  • Does either one of you snore ?
  • Are either of you particularly a ‘night person’, or a ‘morning person’?
  • Have either of you shared accommodation on a tour before?
  • Have either of you been on a tour before?
  • Are either of you used to being on your own most of the time?
  • Do either of you have to read, and for how long every night before turning out the light?
  • Does either of you have to have a window open at night ?
  • Is either of you allergic to air-conditioning?
  • Does either of you make a point of having a ‘nightcap’ each night
    before retiring ?
There can be a lot of ‘give and take’ but in the right situation it can be nice to have company, and just by going over some or all of the above points not for the sake of expecting mirrored answers but just to asses whether or not you can comfortably accommodate a roommate’s presence.

Please keep in mind that just because you are roommates does not mean that you have to do everything together. It is quite usual for the person who gets the shower first to go ahead to breakfast while the other is getting ready for the day’s activities. It is quite usual for one of the two sharing to spend their daytime, mealtime, and or free-time with other passengers.

Please understand that Canadian Woman Traveller does not acknowledge any responsibility for the successful match of people who decide to share and that alternate arrangements will not be made after receipt of balance payment of the tour or during the tour itself.

For some, having your own space and quiet time is very important to the enjoyment of the trip - don’t cheat yourself of this quality if in fact it applies to you. Just because you have your own accommodations doesn’t mean that you will be alone. You are a member of a group tour.

You are welcome to contact me personally for any comments, questions, and suggestions. I look forward to communicating with you.
